Jonesboro, GA – September 30, 2022 – In response to the increasing number of school shootings across the country, Sergeant Daryll Triplett of the Jonesboro Police Department has been tapped to represent the department in a powerful pledge to combat gun violence in schools. This initiative comes on the heels of a troubling rise in school shootings, with 47 reported incidents of gun violence on school grounds across the United States in 2023 alone.
Sgt. Triplett joined a group of dedicated students, faculty, and community leaders to publicly take a stand against gun violence in schools. The event, held at a local school library, featured students proudly wearing shirts emblazoned with the word “PLEDGE,” symbolizing their commitment to a safer, more secure learning environment. The group pledged to work together to prevent further tragedies and ensure that students can learn without fear.
“School shootings have become an all-too-familiar tragedy in our society, and it is vital that we do everything in our power to protect our children,” said Sgt. Daryll Triplett. “This pledge is a vital step toward raising awareness, promoting safety, and ensuring that the safety of our students and educators remains a top priority.”
The initiative comes at a critical time, as the nation grapples with the devastating impact of multiple school shootings, from high school campuses to elementary schools. With these incidents on the rise, it’s clear that change is needed now more than ever.
Sergeant Triplett and the Jonesboro Police Department stand firm in their commitment to making schools safer and supporting programs that protect the well-being of students across the country. Through community outreach and partnerships with local schools, the Jonesboro Police Department aims to continue to lead efforts to prevent violence and encourage dialogue on safety in educational environments.
